Public Hearings on Social Partnership
The active involvement of citizens in the course of drafting and adoption of important documents of the country is an issue that has a tremendous significance in the process of formation and development of Civil Society. In Tajikistan, this issue has becoming very important, since our country is in the early stage of democratization of society and there is much to be done in order to raise self-consciousness and civic culture of country’s population. In this context the practice of holding Public Hearings becomes a proven way of society activization and adoption of viable documents, which acts for the benefit of society as a whole.
The Tajikistan Development Foundation within the project "Strengthening of Civil Society through consolidation and coordination of Civil Society", funded by the UK Government through the Aga Khan Foundation, continues to conduct arrangements on strengthening of social partnership’s basics. The next such event was held on March 30, 2010 in Qurghonteppa city. This Public Hearing was focused on the outcomes of the analysis of existing Tajikistan laws and other legal documents related to the development of Civil Society and its institutions. A particular attention was paid to the social partnership between government and NGOs.
The next Public Hearing is going to be held on April 2, 2010 in Dushanbe, which will bring together representatives of NGOs, Presidential Office, Parliament, business, media and international community. The results of the hearings will be summarized and submitted to the Government and the Parliament of Tajikistan for further consideration and possible application in the course of drafting and adoption of new legal documents and/or appropriate amendments to the effective legal documents.
